There is not much more that is important than communicating well with your clientelle. Your clients are the reason you are in business, after all. It is an ongoing process, like a marathon and definitely not a sprint. Nurture the relationship to develop a genuine connection and understanding of their business needs. If it is not clear what their communication style is, don't be afraid to ask. Choose mediums that demonstrate your skill-set, but don't create a hardship on your client. Meet them where they are most comfortable and always speak in terms that are not too technical unless it is setting where technicality is important to your clients.
Tips for winning a new client:
Nail your first impression - you only get one first impression
If you mostly use a mobile phone consider your phone etiquette and decide if needs some refining.
Dress appropriately for your first meeting and perhaps all that follow.
Remember it is all about them, they want to know, "what's in it for me?" So, don't bring up your personal life. At least not during the first few meetings.
Be available - if your hours of operation state you are open and a new client has to wait for you to open, that is a red flag to them. You may catch them on the way out the door.
Provide excellent customer service. All of the time!
Treat your clients like real people. Without them you would not have a business.
